PEACH BANANA SMOOTHIE

Banana Peach Smoothie In Glass

PEACH BANANA SMOOTHIE

by | Sep 24, 2021

Sometimes we all just need something sweet. I make my very best effort not to eat processed sugar, and because I can easily binge on even “healthy sweets” like these Date Energy Balls and Healthy Buckeye Balls, I try to limit them as well. I like to choose sweet fruits and vegetables when my desire for something sweet just can’t be tamped down. This Peach Banana Smoothie hits the spot, satisfying my sweet tooth while providing nutrients, fiber and protein from the chia seeds that help keep me full and not looking for the next sugar fix.

If you haven’t tried chia seeds, this is your chance. They’re considered a modern day “superfood”, and in addition to their protein content, they’re rich in fiber, protein, omega-3 fatty acid, various micronutrients and antioxidants. Some people prefer soaking the chia seeds in advance, but I love just throwing them into the blender as is. They’ll give a thicker consistency to your smoothie and a slightly nutty flavor. Chia seeds also offer an added layer of texture.

It’s the very end of peach season, and I want to make the most of the last harvest before I need to switch over to frozen. Hence this Peach Banana Smoothie sweetened naturally with in season peaches and ripe bananas. To freeze your peaches and bananas,  slice them thinly, lay each slice separately on a sheet pan and place them in the freezer.   Once they are frozen, add them to a freezer safe container for later use in your smoothies.  If you’ve measured them ahead of time, you’ll have your bananas and peaches ready to go when that sweet tooth strikes.

“When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life.  When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up.  I wrote down ‘happy’.  They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life.” – John Lennon
