“Ok, this is a long one, but how do you condense the effects of a life-transforming program into a few sentences? Here are the basics- I am a mom of 3 little(ish) ones and have a full-time career, household, (and husband!) that I juggle. After a particularly tough few months in 2021, I realized my current state of exhaustively trying to juggle everything, while still anxiously feeling like I was barely keeping my head above water, was not sustainable. Something had to change, I just had no clue how to change it.
I was introduced to Rebecca by a cousin, and I’m still awed by how she came into my life at just the right moment. I was struggling with bouts of anxiety and one of my boys had just been diagnosed with a unique food allergy. I’ve never enjoyed meal planning and I burned (literally) frozen pizzas. I didn’t particularly enjoy working out, either. Meditation? Completely off the radar. I wasn’t sure how a transformation was even possible, but I knew I had to figure it out quickly and wanted to take a more holistic approach to my health (mind, body and soul). I was desperate for a change. I knew all the things I should be doing- losing those few extra pounds, exercising regularly, eating “right”, practicing mindfulness and being present- but had no clue how to even begin. It seemed an overwhelming task.
I was excited to start, but a little skeptical- open, but not quite sure how this would work. How is my chaos – however self-inflicted it may be – going to subside so that I can focus on me? And should I even be focused on me? I have a lot of people (and a pup) that need me to focus on them. Did I even have the energy to follow through with this whole transformation thing? But I was willing, and Rebecca was patient. She broke everything down into baby steps without my realizing it. I had so many “ah-ha” moments, and my once-lofty goals began to turn into routines. Even when I thought we were just working on a clean diet, my entire mindset was shifting without a conscious understanding of what was happening. Once we had sorted out what foods fuel your body, I had the natural energy to focus on the other aspects of needed change.
Everything seemed to naturally progress- from regular exercise (and how to stick with it), to practicing mindfulness, daily devotions and even meditation. They’ve all become so ingrained in my routine that I feel off if I don’t have my morning smoothie (yes, even the green ones that I once rejected) or take 5-10 minutes before logging into my computer to do a devotion and quick mediation.
At the risk of sounding cliché, so much of the changes we seek can be found within. You just need the right teacher with the right tools. Rebecca has been this for me, and I’m so grateful.
